Summer in New York is beautiful, but it often leaves a souvenir we didn’t ask for: sun spots. As your tan fades, you might notice new freckles, dark patches, or “liver spots” on your face, décolleté, and hands.
While Vitamin C serums are a great maintenance tool, they often aren’t strong enough to remove deep-set pigmentation. That is where professional technology comes in.
The “Magic” of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
At Marta’s Salon, our go-to solution for sun damage is IPL Therapy, often called a Photo Facial. Unlike a laser that focuses on just one wavelength, IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash.
The light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigmented cells (melanin). The heat breaks the pigment down into tiny particles. Over the next few days, these spots may darken (looking like coffee grounds) and naturally flake off, leaving clear, even-toned skin behind.
It is highly effective for:
- Sun spots and age spots.
- Broken capillaries (redness).
- Rosacea.
Chemical Peels as an Alternative
If you are not a candidate for light therapy, Chemical Peels are another powerful way to lift pigment. By removing the top layer of the epidermis, we physically remove the stained cells, forcing the skin to regenerate a new, unblemished layer.
Prevention is Key
Remember, treating hyperpigmentation is a waste of time if you don’t protect your investment. Whether you choose IPL or a Peel, daily use of SPF 30+ is non-negotiable!
